Last month, there were reports that HTC was developing a less advanced and more affordable variant of the Desire 820. The phone is now available in China as the HTC Desire 820 Mini. The name easily suggests that the phone is more compact that the original Desire 820, which comes with a 5.5-inch display. The Desire 820 Mini has a smaller 5-inch 720p display, which may still provide reasonable sharpness.
Initial availability is through Tmall, one of the major online retailers in the country for about $228. This makes the phone approximately $100 cheaper than the original Desire 820. The smaller phone relies on the less powerful, but still capable Snapdragon 400 processor, instead of the Snapdragon 615 64-bit on the original. It also has 8GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, 8Mp rear-facing camera, 5Mp front-facing camera, dual SIM capabilities, 4G and Android 4.4 KitKat. There’s no indication whether the HTC Desire 820 Mini will be available in other areas, but we will soon find out.
HTC is known for its slightly higher pricing, so it is a good thing to see the Desire 820 Mini priced at this level. Compared to HTC’s other models, the phone provides somewhat higher values for entry-level consumers.
