Intel Introduces Merrifield Processors Lineup for Smartphones

Intel Merrifield ProcessorsThe Computex 2013 is all about Haswell processors and Intel has also used the opportunity to introduce the Merrifield, a new processor lineup for smartphones. It is a direct successor to Intel’s earlier mobile offerings, the Clover Trail+ and Medfield. Intel is known for its ambition to take on high-end chips based on ARM’s processors. A senior employee from said that the Merrifield will be about 50 percent faster than the Clover Trail+ and will be four times more efficient too.

It is said that first samples of Merrifield processors will be showcased at MWC 2014.

There are still some unanswered questions, such as whether Merrifield will include built-in 4G LTE capability. The absence of high-speed connectivity is the reason why Intel-based devices fail to make strong headway in the United States. However, Intel is planning to deliver 4G LTE capability to tablets using the Silvermont-based 22mm Bay Trail-T processors. Because Merrifield also uses Silvermont architecture, the inclusion of built-in 4G LTE is not a far-fetched idea.
