Samsung Will Release Dual-Mode FDD/TDD LTE Smartphones

Samsung Dual Mode FDD/TDD LTE SmartphonesSamsung is pushing further to China’s emerging 4G LTE market by bringing Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini with dual-mode LTE capability that runs on both TDD and FDD networks. Today, most countries are deploying FDD LTE technology when setting up 4G network.

However, carriers in China are promoting the use of TDD-based 4G LTE networks. China Mobile, the largest carrier in the country, with nearly 750 million subscribers is finalizing its 4G standard, with commercial licenses issues later this year.

At the moment, Samsung still reigns in China with 19 percent market share and according to forecasts, about 25 percent smartphones shipped in the country will use 4G LTE networks.

The figure may reach 50 percent by 2017 and Samsung’s dual-mode LTE handsets will allow users to roam seamlessly over FDD and TDD 4G LTE networks. A local Australian carrier, Optus will also add a dual-mode LTE phone in coming weeks.
