Earlier rumors are finally confirmed as Sony has recently unveiled two new smartphone models the Xperia L and Xperia SP. The company is seeking to broaden its lineup by offering lower-priced models to accompany the high-end Xperia Z. With 4.5 percent market share, Sony is currently holding the 4th place in the market between ZTE at 4.3 percent and Huawei at 4.9 percent.
The third-place position is a highly contested spot as other phone makers will find it difficult to challenge Apple and Samsung. Consequently, Sony will focus more on budget phone models to dislodge Huawei from its current position.
The Sony Xperia L is designed for a narrow segment in the market, called shutterbugs, who seek budget smartphones with better than average camera in the category. The phone is equipped with a 4.3” display, 8Mp rear-facing camera, Sony’s proprietary photography technology and physical camera button. The Sony Xperia SP looks like a decent mid-ranger for this year’s standard with high quality 4.6” display and 4G LTE data connectivity. It is equipped with a notification light that changes color based on what the phone is doing.
