Nvidia Tegra 4 May Outperform Qualcomm Snapdragon 800

Nvidia Tegra 4A recent report tells us that Nvidia’s new Tegra 4 SoC is more powerful than Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Hardware analysts believe that the latter is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro overclocked to 2.3GHz from 1.7GHz. Based on this estimation, the Nvidia Tegra 4 may beat out Qualcomm’s high-end chip rather easily.

Obviously, this sounds less than solid evidences and more like a guess. However, since the processor hasn’t been available in the market; this is as far as we can do. The Quadrant v2 benchmark gives a score of 16,436 for the Nvidia Tegra 4; while the ‘Snapdragon 800’, which is in this case a boosted version of Snapdragon S4 Pro reaches 16,799. Contrary to the reports; it shows that the Snapdragon 800 is slightly faster than the Tegra 4, even without factoring in likely hardware-based improvements.

There are also a few notable details worth mentioning; power efficiency is one fact where Qualcomm continues to enjoy significant real-world advantages and the benchmark result assumes that power constraint doesn’t throttle performance.
