Acer Will Release an Intel-powered Smartphone

Intel Powered SmartphoneThe major computer manufacturer, Acer Inc., said recently that it will release an Intel-powered smartphone before the end of the year. This would make the Taiwanese company, the third phone maker to offer a smartphone with Intel processor inside.

Acer plans to launch six Android smartphone models this year, followed by six other models in 2013. About 567 millions smartphones will be shipped this year and Acer has a modest goal of selling only 2 million units around the globe. During the event, Acer also officially announced the release of three new smartphones, including a high-end model, called CloudMobile S500, which has support for personal cloud service.

The company declined to provide further details, but it’s easy to see that Intel is Acer’s long-time partner and both companies are quite familiar with one another. Both firms have their roots in consumer computing industry and this could be the start of a long partnership in the mobile industry.
